Black Butte Ranch in Sisters’ Oregon, prides itself on having one of the best views of the Three Sisters’ mountains, without hiking the back country. At the ranch, horses frolic wildly, returning to their free nature all summer long in the long grass pastures. This piece depicts two mares basking in the light of the setting sun and enjoying each other’s company, occasionally grazing and greeting passersby’s carrying treats. Their slick coats catch the light of the sun as it sets behind South Sister and Broken Top Mountain, while the grasses turn bright yellow and orange in the changing light.
