As you may have guessed, growing up hiking in Oregon would inspire me to paint trees. Birch trees and Aspens are probably my favorite. Their white bark provides stark contrast to their leaves and surroundings. The palette knife technique also lends itself to recreating the look and texture of peeling bark.

However, a evergreen cannot be surpassed in sheer girth and authority. The look of evergreen and birch trees in winter is especially magical. Evergreens with stark contrast of their lasting dark needles, and birch trees blending into the snow.
