I created my ongoing still life series to truly understand how the masters created their own work. Fruit and flowers were a luxury, and I try to keep that in mind when I paint a still life. I imagine how difficult it must have been to acquire the subject matter required and when working, to resist sampling the luxury treats. I also paint still life pieces as studies in shape, texture, color, and light.
